Chiellini moving to the MLS after Serie A

Giorgio Chiellini’s expected to be among superstars who part ways with Juventus in Serie A subsequent summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, Giorgio Chiellini is one move away from heading to the U.S. to play for Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer. If LAFC were to move on from Giorgio Chiellini, Vancouver Whitecaps are interested, too, as is at least one other, undisclosed Major League Soccer team. Sources told Transfermarkt that Los Angeles FC is unwilling to trade the rights to Chiellini’s MLS rights, removing the Vancouver Whitecaps from the discussion.

According to reports by Sam Stejskal and Paul Tenorio, the Whitecaps will need to buy out LFCs MLS discovery rights on Chiellini before they can sign him. The Vancouver Whitecaps, believe it or not, are said to have an interest in acquiring Chiellini, according to a report from The Athletic. Canadian powerhouse Toronto FC is another team touted as a possible destination for Giorgio Chiellini; earlier this month, the player’s agent was exploring an MLS move.

According to The Athletic, Giorgio Chiellini, the 37-year-old centre-back from Juventus, wants out of Italy and to relocate to North America next summer. Telling, in turn, also suggests Los Angeles FC are having advance talks with the Italian, and a deal appears to be closing. A number of significant teams across North America are linked with moving Giorgio Chiellini, including Los Angeles rivals LAFC and LA Galaxy. Those claims came via Goals Juve reporter Romeo Agresti, who tweeted earlier that Italy veterans Giorgio Chiellini is one step from agreeing on terms with West Coast club LAFC Los Angeles-based, with the deal expected to be completed within the next few weeks.

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini first joined Juventus from Roma in 2004 and, barring a one-year loan at Fiorentina, has spent the 18 years since then based in Turin. Juventus Italian legend Giorgio Chiellini has earned 116 caps for his country, helping them achieve glory in the Euro 2020 tournament over England last year. Giorgio Chiellini has played 560 times for Juventus since arriving in 2004, winning nine Serie A titles and numerous other top honours while also becoming the club’s captain. Across Giorgio Chiellini’s career, he has been an influential player both at the club and international level, with Chiellini winning 23 significant awards, widely considered to be at the very least one of the best centre-backs of his generation.

Heading to the U.S. is not much of a surprise, seeing as how the momentum from Giorgio Chiellini’s departure from Juventus has only grown. Of course, he has made himself known officially, but the fact that Chiellini is going to spend the final year or two of his playing career in LA, a place very, very different from Turin, may surprise some.
