Snow is not a hindrance. How CSKA beat Ufa and reached the 1/4 finals of the Russian Cup

Last time CSKA went beyond the 1/16 finals in the Russian Cup in the 2015/16 season. Then the army team lost to Zenit in the final (1: 4). This time, the red and blue hit “Ufa”. This is a convenient rival for the Moscow club, since before that, the army team had never lost to the Ufa team in official matches. However, for the red-blue, this meeting was not easy, although victorious (1: 0).

Not the faith of the fans?

Even before the match, it became known that for the first time in the history of VEB Arena the upper tier of grandstand A would be closed. There are active fans of the Moscow club. Usually this sector is completely clogged. In general, there were very few spectators at the stadium. However, the Ufa team was surprised, there were about 20 people at the game.

CSKA even held a drawing of tickets in order to somehow attract people to the stadium. As a result, nothing came of it. Most likely, the army team set an anti-record for attendance.

Rest “plowed”

CSKA head coach Viktor Goncharenko gave the team leaders a long-awaited rest. For the first time since the cup match against Alania, Mario Fernandez and Vlašić did not play. On the field appeared players who had healed their injuries – Nababkin and Shchennikov, who came out with a captain’s armband. Fans of the army team immediately greeted the defender with a shout: “Zhora Shchennikov”. However, in the game, he seemed somehow lost. Ufa’s mentor Vadim Evseev refused to rotate, having put forward the main team as much as possible.

Useless control and “deliveries” of defenders

At the very beginning of the meeting, the hosts took over. The players of the Moscow club rolled the ball, almost without moving forward. Akhmetov and Sigurdsson tried to constantly play for Nishimura, but either the passes turned out to be inaccurate, or the Ufa defenders intercepted the ball. Then it snowed, which changed the game of the army club’s defense players.

The Diveev-Charlia duet for two organized three dangerous moments at their gates. First, the Croat scored: he made too weak a pass to Pomazun, the ball was intercepted by Aliyev. The footballer ran to the penalty area and lost a football shell. After that, Diveev almost gave an assist to Krotov, after hitting the Russian Sharliya knocked the ball out of the goal line.

Almighty Billol

In the second half, the Ufa players have already started creating chances themselves, without the help of an opponent. However, the guests could not realize them. The head coach of CSKA decided to strengthen the squad with Billol, Chalov and Vlašić. And it worked. At the end of the game, Vlašić brought Biyol heads-up, who scored the winning goal for the army team.

Thus, for the first time since the 2015/16 season, CSKA made it to the quarter finals of the Russian Cup, where the red-blues have the opportunity to meet with Spartak if the red-whites beat Rostov on Thursday.
